Seven Maintenance Tips to Keep Your Car in Great Condition

While you’re not going to prevent the need for every repair for your vehicle, if you take your vehicle in for service regularly you can keep it in great condition. Since some cars are expensive, these tips can be used to prolong your vehicle’s life and help you save money.

Have the Oil Changed

The best thing you can do to prolong your car’s life is to have the oil changed on a regular basis. Old oil gets dirty and becomes thicker, which can make your car run sluggishly and can eventually cause complete engine failure. Most vehicles need the oil changed about every three to four months.

Change Coolant Once a Year

It is important to have the cooling system flushed and the coolant changed once a year. This is especially true if you live someplace where there are extreme weather conditions. Have the entire system checked when the coolant is changed at a business that does auto repair in Dubai.

Check Brake Fluid

It is important to maintain brake fluid levels to make sure your car stops when you apply the brake. Brake fluid attracts moisture, so it should be changed once a year as well. This will keep the brakes and their parts from corroding and causing failures.

Have Vehicle Lubed

Any metal parts that move need some type of lubricant to keep them moving. When you have the oil changed, have the u-joints and ball joints lubed to keep them in good working order.

Check Transmission Fluid

While you don’t need to change transmission fluid as often as the engine oil, it shouldn’t be neglected either. Old fluid can become sticky and lead to transmission problems that can be very expensive to repair. Check the fluid regularly and have it changed according to the recommendations in the owner’s manual.

Check Battery and Cables

Most people forget that a battery needs to be maintained in order to keep it charged. Check to make sure the cables are tight and there is no corrosion around the posts. If there is, clean it off with a wire brush and then apply a thin layer of grease to the posts before replacing the cables to make sure your car starts whenever you get in it.

Wash Car Regularly

To keep your car looking as great as it runs, it needs to be washed regularly. Road grime, dust, and sand will eat away at the clear coat and paint if you don’t wash them off the car. Waxing your car after it has been washed will also help protect its paint job.

By taking your car in for service on a regular basis, you will not only keep it in good working order but it will retain more of its value as well. Then, when you go to sell it or trade it in for a newer model, you will get more money with which to buy another vehicle. Your mechanic can spot problems before your car breaks down if you take your car in regularly.
